Meet the Artist Reception:Bring a Friend and Meet Japanese Artist Kizuko KizawaWednesday, May 7, 6 - 8 pm Caetani Centre Courtyard3401 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, BCThe Caetani Centre is pleased to announce that it is gearing up for another great year of visiting artists with a national and international flavor in partnership with the Allan Brooks Nature Centre. On Wednesday, May 7, from 6 – 8 pm the Caetani Centre will hold a welcoming reception for the first of four artists who will take part in the Fresh! AiR program of artist residencies with an environmental and conservation theme. The public is invited and welcome to attend the reception to meet the artist. The reception will take place in the Courtyard of the Caetani Centre. The artists will be living at the Caetani Cultural Centre in the Sveva Caetani Suite, with the studio being provided by the Allan Brooks Nature Centre.  The first artist on board is Kazuko Kizawa, from Japan, who holds an MFA from the University of Tama, Japan, and has attended residencies all over the world, most notably in Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Australia, Spain, Finland, and the famed Banff Centre here in Canada, to name a few.She has exhibited internationally and given workshops. Kizawa works mainly in the medium of video. There will also be a presentation of the artist’s work later in the residency (date TBA).Kizawa will be working in the Greater Vernon community and at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre with excursions to wilderness areas and our many lakes. Her works hold a special interest in light and water, both found in abundance here in the Okanagan, and she is looking forward to exploring the many facets of life and the environment here in the North Okanagan. The Artist states: “I have been constantly pursuing the possibilities of colour and light. I began with two-dimensional art, moving into three-dimensional objects, installations, and moving images, changing the form of expression as necessary. My current challenge is focused on using physical phenomenon, nature of interference to experiment with the possibilities of colour and light and create contemporary art. During the various artist-in-residencies I have attended since Banff, Canada in 2002, I have enjoyed the way that my work absorbs and is changed by the landscapes, materials, and people that I encounter along the way. I think that working in residence is the most effective method for me, and I hope to continue this path in the future.”We are pleased to welcome Kazuko Kizawa to our community!Allan Brooks Nature CentreThanks to Aaron Deans and the Allan Brooks Nature Centre for providing endless studio space for all our Fresh! AiR artists.
