Join us at the Allan Brook's Nature Centre, where Niharika will talk about the purpose and story behind her works, both past and present.Refreshments will be provided.All are welcome!

The Caetani Cultural Centre and the Allan Brooks Nature Centre are excited to present our current Fresh!AiR artist, Niharika Rajput. Niharika is a visual artist and a creative conservationist based in New Delhi, India.  She graduated in 2012 from Delhi University with a Bachelor of Arts Honours in English Literature.  She is continuously working on projects related to bird conservation.  Through her art and creative work, she hopes to raise awareness of bird extinction and endangerment caused by global warming, loss of habitat and telephone towers, to name but a few.  Her passion for birds and conservationism is emphasized in her artwork, as she draws inspiration from nature and the avian world.Niharika constructs 3D sculptures of birds using m-seal, wire and paper.  Each bird is constructed with an incredible level of detail, texture, colour and material which seems to bring her birds to life.  During her six-week residency at the Caetani Centre, she hopes to investigate the various species of birds in the Okanagan, focusing mainly on hummingbirds, which will be the platform of her newest project.  She has been busy in the studio working on models of three species of hummingbirds, Rufous, Black-chinned, and Calliope, during her stay.  She hopes the connections she makes here will help shape her artwork in the future years and further establish her bond with birds and nature. Her hummingbird sculptures will be on exhibit during the presentation on Wednesday, so viewers can experience first-hand the level of detail Niharika puts into her work.Following Niharika’s Artist Talk, there will be an informative presentation on North Okanagan hummingbirds and a ‘Hands On’ demonstration by the Okanagan Naturalists Club on how to band a hummingbird. This is a citizen science project to help determine why numbers of hummingbirds are down in North America. If you have an interest in hummingbirds, don’t miss this opportunity to find out what you can do to help the hummingbirds in your back yard.Rajput’s residency marks the third of four back-to-back Fresh!AiR art & environment themed artist residencies for the 2016 season, a program made possible through a partnership between the Caetani Cultural Centre and the Allan Brooks Nature Centre.Find Out More...                     For more information about Niharika and her work, you can check out her website by clicking here...
