BOOK LAUNCH

Our Familiar Hunger by Laisha RosnauTuesday April 24th 7-9pmCaetani Centre Studio GalleryPlease join local author, Laisha Rosnau, as she launches her most recent book of poetry, Our Familiar Hunger, on Tuesday, April 24th.The award-winning writer is author of three previous collections of poetry, most recently Pluck, and the best-selling novel, The Sudden Weight of Snow. The Globe & Mail has said of Rosnau's poetry, "One could never consider Rosnau anything but a deft explorer of the heart; she writes with passion, honesty and precision."

In Our Familiar Hunger, Laisha Rosnau tests and confirms the will, struggle and fortitude of generations of women and confronts how their knowledges interact, inform, burden and transform as they are passed down. Influenced by Rosnau's maternal grandparents, who immigrated to Canada from Ukraine, the book rallies memories of a reclaimed history with the fractured reality of trickle-down inheritance. Rosnau explores sexuality and inequality against the backdrops of historical and contemporary conflict zones, global waves of immigration and expressions of greed and hunger. The profound, the political and the personal are ablaze as Rosnau reveals the myriad ways epigenetic grief interferes or interprets our best attempts, igniting her most powerful collection of poetry to date.

Please join Laisha as she celebrates the publication of Our Familiar Hunger. Doors will open at 7, with reading and festivities beginning at 7:30. There will be special guests, including a dancer from Sadok Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, as well as snacks and festive drinks.
The event is free and open to the public.
