Alex Bailey is an emerging artist from Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.She received her Bachelor’s degree in studio art from the University of Southern Indiana in 2014 and completed her MFA in ceramics at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) in 2019.Throughout the course of her three-year tenure at SIUE, Bailey worked at the University Museum archive, which exposed her to an array of art objects and historic artifacts through art handling, exhibition curation, and more. This experience has been additionally impactful by providing artistic inspiration in unsuspecting places.Recently, Bailey expanded her material use to incorporate textile elements with her ceramic sculptures. Her current mixed media work speaks to the notion of trauma as lived experience. Fibers materials engage with clay to represent skin, flesh, and subjective narratives centered around emotional and/or physical vulnerability. The idea of metamorphosis through healing and restoration is a key focal point for Bailey, and is emphasized through indicators of traumatic events depicted within her work. Each sculpture has its own voice or narrative, and speaks to a unique experience. You can see more of Alex's work and learn more about her here.
