PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS

Working with 5 -10 at-risk or disadvantaged youths from the Greater Vernon community, the Caetani Cultural Centre will engage a photographic artist to mentor these youths for one afternoon per week (3 - 4 hours/week, July & August) in a project which focusses on creating a digital photo-documentary and/or experimental digital photo-based sports themed collaborative work. Some staff support will be provided. We are looking for youths who may need a creative outlet due to their own life circumstances, to hopefully offer them an alternative activity, perhaps even leading to a lifelong hobby or in some cases a professional career choice they may not have considered or realized was open to them.Important to the project is the viewpoint of the individual youths involved – what is their perspective? How do they perceive their involvement in sport and culture in their community? The final work(s) will be accompanied by a written statement from the mentoring artist and youths, and will celebrate sports as a life-affirming and lifelong activity, focussing on all aspects of sports in our community: from the overall health benefits, to the joy, pain, sacrifice and gain that physical activity can provide. The mentoring artist is required to submit a portfolio, either uploaded digitally on-line, or by mail, of their current or relevant work for final consideration.BC-Winter-Games_web150GOOD SPORTS!
