RespectFest 2017! September 20th & 24th

Caetani Cultural Centre RespectFest Events:

Wednesday September 20th 5:30-6:30pm: 1920's Games for Kids & Historic Tours for Adults.  Tour starts at 5:30 and we will run childrens activities till the tour ends.  Sack races, marbles, tops, and a creative project outdoors rain or shine. 

FAMILY FUN DAY

Sunday September 24th 12-4pmBring the whole family for RespectFest related displays and activities on the grounds.  Paint a rock for our Caetani Community Art Project Installation, learn about water purification with Valhalla Pure Outfitters, learn about indigenous plants with Back to Earth,  join the CedarBridge School for activities, Gypsy Jay will be doing hennas for a fee,  take fun images in our photo booth, and let the kids be entertained by ItsyBitsy Music Together.  Basket Case Picnics will be offering their fresh local food for purchase onsite, our Caetani refreshments bar will be running and Teassential will be selling their signature tea blends.Live Music from Betty Johnson and the Aaron Loewen Trio runs 2-4 p.m. as our final Summer Music Series Event.Cordage Workshops with Jaymie Johnson:We are pleased to welcome for both events, our current Fresh!AiR artist resident, Jaymie Johnson joining us from Vancouver, BC. Jaymie will be hosting youth and adult cordage workshops on the grounds of the Caetani Centre throughout both of the RespectFest events.

Using local plant material, learn to make cordage that will become part of an eco-art installation inspired by weavings and webs found in nature. We will use tried-and-true fibres, such as stinging nettle, as well as explore new fibres. Come with curiosity and leave with a new skill.         
      

About Respectfest

RespectFEST 2017  is a celebration of respect and diversity in the North Okanagan. Held from September 18-24, 2017 RespectFEST is being generously funded in part by the Government of Canada as part of Canada’s 150 Birthday.A true community partnership, RespectFEST is being spearheaded by the Social Planning Council of the North Okanagan, the Allan Brooks Nature Centre, and the Downtown Vernon Association.RespectFEST 2017 is building on other local projects and initiatives that celebrate diversity and multiculturalism and provide opportunities to learn more about First Nation history that predates confederation; acknowledging a history that goes back millenniums.Events including art walks, educational opportunities and a one-day Multicultural Festival will take place over the course of a week and are expected to attract 12,000 participants of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.The concept of RespectFEST 2017 has been founded on four main pillars:

We respect our land and environment; honour our indigenous history and roots; understand our multicultural history, and recognize the strength that diversity brings to our community and nation.
